Last year was an extremely emotional year for the Lakers team for many reasons, as you can tell there was some weight lifted off the shoulders of Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and the other players when they finally won the championship. With a quick turnaround from the end of last season to the 2020-21 season, the Lakers are going to have to put their game faces on quickly as their chance to repeat starts on December 22nd.
Anthony Davis doesn’t seem to have a problem with regaining motivation for next season after winning his first championship at the age of 27. He talked to Chris Geeter McGee of Spectrum SportsNet shortly after his new max deal became official with the Lakers, talking about how much his first championship actually made him want another one right away.
“I’m very motivated. I want to do it again. When we won the Western Conference Finals, LeBron said “Just wait until you win a championship and you hold that trophy”. Your love for winning just grows, and ever since holding that trophy I just want to do it again. You want to hold that trophy over and over and over, you get addicted to winning. I want that feeling again, I want to be able to hold that Larry O’Brien trophy again, and become a meme again where I’m crying and people are using it for everything (laughs). But that was a good meme! I’m ready to get started again and I’m ready to get with this group of guys and get back to work to be able to hoist one of those trophies again.”
"I don't think it was a doubt that I was coming back…LA is a place I want to be." @AntDavis23 sits with our @geeter3 to discuss his contract extension with the #LakeShow, aspirations for the upcoming season, and more. @Lakers pic.twitter.com/ekaeLLBn9A

Usually, these types of “motivation” speeches sound forced or fabricated, but you can tell that Davis really wants to return to the height of this league. It’s also funny to hear that he doesn’t even care if you get to see him cry on national T.V. again. Just as long as he has that trophy!
