The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the extension of LeBron James’ contract and the re-signing of Anthony Davis to a five-year contract yesterday, as the franchise has placed its stock into these two superstars after they won a championship in their first year together.
Anthony Davis specifically is receiving a lot of trust from the organization as they bet on him (at the very least) for the next four seasons. The move will most likely mean Anthony Davis remaining on the Lakers with LeBron James possibly leaving in the future, cementing him as the franchise’s cornerstone. As the present and future face of the franchise, Davis took time to sit down with Chris Geeter McGee of Spectrum SportsNet to talk about the new contract, the championship, and the offseason as the Lakers get set to tip-off the season on December 22nd against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Geeter wanted to ask Davis about the new players brought in, specifically which player caught Davis’ eye the most. He immediately pointed out Dennis Schröder, who Rob Pelinka traded Danny Green for. Davis surprisingly admits that he did not see the trade coming.
“I think Dennis surprised me the most. Just from the fact that I didn’t expect for it to happen. You hear rumors and things like that, but you don’t really get involved because you don’t know what’s real and what’s not. And when I saw that trade go through I was like “Wow, we really just got Dennis Schroder”. Somebody that is tough on the defensive end, great offensively, scrappy, the same way we played last year he fits right into that mold. You lose a lot of guys…we wish ‘Do, DG, QC, Dwight, ‘Vale, AB, luck with their respective teams, and without those guys we wouldn’t have been able to win a championship, for sure. But we added some guys to take on their roles and I think we did really good.”

Whether or not Pelinka notified his future superstar about the deal or not, Davis appears to be excited for some pick-and-rolls with Dennis Schröder. The two players — along with LeBron James and Montrezl Harrell — will be attacking the rim relentlessly this season as defenses are going to have a hard time finding a weak link in the Lakers rotation from night-to-night.
