The Los Angeles Lakers took a few on the chin against the Memphis Grizzlies but prevailed late. The 108-94 win marks their third straight. The baseball style schedule means that they will see the short-handed Griz again. The Lakers improve to 5-2, ranking behind the Phoenix Suns at second out West.
The Grizzlies went on a 28-7 run to end the first quarter, leading 36-25. From that point on, the Lakers outscored them 83-58.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis imposed their will on the game after the slow start. James had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. He hit three of his six long-range attempts at some much-needed moments. Davis added 17 points on the night. Marc Gasol enjoyed a nice homecoming with seven points and six rebounds and four assists.
The veteran additions continue to come up big. Montrezl Harrell’s 16 points led all reserve scorers on the evening. Wesley Matthews went four of six from three-point range for 14 points. Over the last three games, he’s hit 10 of 12 deep bombs.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso missed tonight’s contest. KCP played in 214 straight games, per Laker Film Room. Caruso is still out due to the league’s health and safety protocols.
The second game against the Grizzlies tips off at 5 PM PST/8 PM EST.
