Lakers fans have been anticipating the contract for Anthony Davis as we wait to see what type of contract structure the Lakers and agent Rich Paul will agree upon. There are many different contracts that Davis can sign with the team, as he is now the last domino that is needed to fall for the Lakers to have a nearly full roster. Well, we received breaking news this morning related to one huge contract with the Lakers, except this contract was an extension as LeBron James will remain a Laker for a little longer now per Shams Charania and The Athletic.

The two-year extension will keep LeBron James in a Lakers jersey through the 2022-23 season. He originally had a player option for the 2021-22 season for $41M, with the potential to be an unrestricted free agent in the 2022 offseason. It is uncertain right now whether there is still a player option for LeBron, now for the 2022-23 season that will be the final year of his contract.

This news came out of nowhere, as many have been expecting some Anthony Davis contract news and definitely not LeBron James contract news. The move by Rich Paul and LeBron James continues to show how enamored LeBron is with Jeanie Buss, Rob Pelinka, the rest of the Lakers organization, and the city of Los Angeles in general. If LeBron remains on the Lakers for the entirety of the contract, it will be the longest time that LeBron’s spent with a franchise in consecutive years since his first seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers (the 2022-23 season would put him at five seasons with the Lakers).

Here’s to more time watching the best basketball player ever with the Lakers!
