The Lakers did not make any trades before the NBA trade deadline, but that doesn’t necessarily mean their roster won’t be getting a change soon. According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, league sources have “long believed” that NBA Free Agent Darren Collison prefers to join the Lakers over the Clippers. Collison retired over the summer but recent reports indicate he may want to return to the NBA.

Darren Collison is an impressive point guard and would be an immediate upgrade over what the Lakers currently have. No one is 100% sure what Collison’s plans are, but this recent report points to him preferring the Lakers if he decides to rejoin the NBA.

The Lakers currently have a glut of guards but do not have a guard who makes great decisions. Having LeBron is a great remedy for this issue, but when he goes to the bench the Lakers offense often falls apart. Adding Collison would immediately fix this problem and is currently their biggest point of need. We will have to wait and see if these reports come to fruition.
