The Lakers improve to an NBA best 17-2 record after an all around dominant performance against the Washington Wizards. The team ended up winning 125-103 in a game that didn’t feel exactly certain at the start.
This game started horribly for the Lakers. Careless turnovers, lackadaisical defense, completely inept offense. This is nothing new to the Lakers as they have not really gotten off to good starts over the past couple of weeks.
But after falling down 15 to 4 the energy really picked up for the Lakers. They went on a 29 to 4 run at one point and never really lost control of the game. This was the best defensive game the team has played in a long time and they seemed interested in taking care of business early.
LeBron James finished with 23 points and 11 assists in 25 minutes, while Anthony Davis had another monster defensive game and finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 27 minutes. The Lakers had contributions from the rest of the team as well. Rondo continued his hot shooting from deep and hit multiple from long range. Danny Green also had it going from three after being cold the last couple of games.
This was a dominant game for the Lakers. There’s going to be talk about how the Lakers being 17-2 isn’t that impressive. They haven’t had the toughest schedule to start, but the Lakers are 14-0 against teams that are under .500. Being a good team means you take care of business on a night to night basis, and that’s exactly what the Lakers are doing.
The Lakers aren’t going to win every game this season, and will eventually hit a point where they don’t look as dominate as they did tonight. That’s perfectly fine. All I know is the Lakers have the best record in the league, and after all the bad years, it feels great to be here.
