The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced on Sunday that forward Kyle Kuzma will be out for the season opener against the LA Clippers.
Kuzma did not play at all in the preseason after suffering a stress reaction in his foot while in the exhibition circuit with Team USA Basketball this summer. Kuzma is considered day-to-day with the injury.
The third-year pro is likely to be the only rotation Laker out for the game. Anthony Davis has recovered from an injured finger and Quinn Cook played one preseason game after missing the previous four with a sore calf.
The Clippers, meanwhile, will be without star wing Paul George who is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
It’s not clear yet when Kuzma will return from his injury. The Lakers will likely remain cautious to prevent further injuries to their young star. However, the team does need him back soon as they strive to build chemistry with a very different roster to last year. Kuzma has not been able to participate in training camp with his new teammates, having just recently been cleared for non-contact practice.
