The Los Angeles Lakers are focused on signing one of several max-level free agents but if they are unable to do so, their plan B would be to split their cap space among several high-level role players.

One of the best role players on the market is Danny Green who was an integral part of the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA championship. According to Harrison D. Sanford, Green’s Co-Host on his show “Inside the Green Room with Danny Green,” the shooting guard is expecting to hear from several teams as free agency starts, including the Lakers.

Of course, this is the time of year when many players use teams’ interests, particularly the Lakers’, to drive up their value, so these type of rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. That’s especially true when the connection to Green is so obvious.

That said, the Lakers seem to have reached out to representatives of other top available role players like Patrick Beverley and Seth Curry so it appears as though they are preparing for the scenario where they do not sign Kawhi Leonard.

If the Lakers do get Leonard, they will not have the money to sign Green unless he takes a massive discount. But if they do not get the top free agent on the market, Green may be their best option to start the process of filling out the roster.
