Throughout the season there has been countless speculation about the job security of Lakers head coach Luke Walton. There were reports that both Magic Johnson and LeBron James’ camp want to replace Walton with another head coach. On the other hand, Lakers Owner, Jeanie Buss maintained her support of him, and ultimately her opinion matters the most.

However, there are rumors going around the NBA coaching circuit according to Marc Stein of the New York Times that Walton will indeed be let go following the season.

“The prevailing assumption in league coaching circles remains that Walton will almost certainly be dismissed after the season”

While Buss being in Walton’s corner is certainly enough to drive away some speculation about his job security, the writing has been on the wall that Walton may not be long for the Lakers. Given the way the team has performed in the second half of the season, there would have to be a very compelling argument in order for Walton to keep his job heading into next year.

The Lakers currently are sitting outside the playoff picture and after losses to the Suns, Pelicans, and Grizzlies since the All-Star break their hopes of making the post-season are dwindling.
