Los Angeles Lakers’ head coach Luke Walton has been on the hot seat for most of the season, especially as the team continues its slide without LeBron James.

On The Hoop Collective Podcast, ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan and Brian Windhorst spoke about what she saw going on with the Lakers. Following another fourth-quarter meltdown, in which the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the purple and gold see themselves outside of the playoff picture, 1.5 games behind the 8th seeded Clippers. Speaking on the Lakers, MacMullan has stated that LeBron’s inner circle prefer that the Lakers move on from head coach Luke Walton.

There’s a lot of tension in that building. A lot of tension in that building, and I think people are wondering about Luke Walton even though Jeanie Buss came out very strongly and said ‘I want Luke to be here, I back him 100 percent,’ but then also made the point that has to be made and that’s that she hired Earvin Magic Johnson to make these decisions, and if Earvin feels differently she gave him the power to make those kinds of decisions. It’s clear to me, and probably to you Brian, that LeBron’s camp would prefer a coaching change, they’re not too subtle about that, so I don’t think that’s fair.

Though LeBron has not spoken publicly on the manner, those around him have made it clear otherwise that they would prefer if the team made a change at the head coaching position.

Not LeBron, but all the people around LeBron, and they’ve made it known.

With everything seemingly going wrong for the Lakers at the moment, whether it be the abundance of injuries and the aforementioned tension in the organization, there could be a change coming soon. The trade deadline is less than 2 weeks away but perhaps another big change is in the horizon.

  1. You know, I’m sick and tired as a laker fan to always hear every year that they have trades to do and coaching staff that are on a hot seat, enough already it’s freaking frustrating when as the season starts you already bring those kind of issues in the middle, your playing with there emotions and that’s why they can’t get there stuff together, so shut up for once and let them play and whenever your gonna trade or fire them, that’s when you do it!
