The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat on Monday, winning 108 to 105 after a missed shot by Miami in the final seconds. But the game was more than just the result as it provided fans a final look at LeBron James and Dwyane Wade sharing a basketball court with the latter having announced his impending retirement at the conclusion of this season.

The matchup did not disappoint as the duo went at it in the closing seconds guarding each other on the final possessions of the game with James coming out on top.

Wade’s 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds paced the Heat who were led by 28 points from Justise Winslow. James led the way for the Lakers with 28 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds but received big help from Kyle Kuzma who put up 33 points of his own.

The real sight, however, was the festivities following the closing seconds of the game with James and Wade immediately embracing each other. The two exchanged jerseys and spoke to NBA TV’s Dennis Scott about what the game and their respective careers meant to them:

It was a storybook ending for one of the greatest partnerships in basketball: two close friends who played together, won championships together and kept their strong relationship throughout and beyond.

Lakers players and staff gave their own recognition of Wade who will be retiring as a first-ballot Hall of Famer:

Happy retirement, D-Wade.
