The Los Angeles Lakers have recently experienced some positive developments on the court. The team has won back-to-back nights after a 0-3 start, earning wins over the Phoenix Suns and then-undefeated Denver Nuggets.
Now, it appears they have some positive developments happening off the court as well.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Lakers have designated rookie big man Moritz Wagner to a rehab assignment with the team’s G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
The first round pick from of the University of Michigan has not seen any game action since suffering a knee injury during summer league play in July. The Lakers’ center rotation has been fairly thin to start the 2018-19 regular season, relying heavily on JaVale McGee while getting some quality minutes from Johnathan Williams off the bench.
Wagner’s return will be a welcome one, adding to the team’s frontcourt depth and hopefully providing some shooting to the lineup. There is still work left to be done before Wagner’s official NBA debut, but it appears a return for the rookie is getting close.
