The wait is finally over.
The NBA free agency period that the Los Angeles Lakers have been preparing for is finally here. Ever since president of basketball operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka unloaded D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets last summer, the Lakers have had their eyes on July of 2018.
The team accomplished their goal of clearing enough cap space to be in a position to make a splash this summer. Now, will they deliver?
Rumors of LeBron James signing with the Lakers are everywhere, while Paul George returning home to don a purple and gold uniform next season appears to be far less certain than it did a year ago.
Will the Lakers be able to sign away James from his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers? Will Paul George follow him to Los Angeles? Will the Lakers be able to swing a trade with the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard?
Answers are on the horizon. Gary Kester, Honi Ahmadian and Jacob Rude break down the possibilities of a monster summer for the Lakers on today’s podcast.
