Los Angeles Laker two-way guard Alex Caruso was one of 14 named to the USA World Cup Qualifying roster, released by USA Basketball on Monday.
Caruso is one of four players looking to make their first World Cup Qualifying Team along with Myke Henry (Memphis Hustle), Nick Johnson (Austin Spurs) and Kevin Jones (Baskonia, Spain).
Returnees for Team USA are Reggie Hearn (Grand Rapids Drive), Jonathan Holmes (Maine Red Claws), Amile Jefferson (Iowa Wolves), Xavier Munford (Wisconsin Herd), Taylor Braun (Salt Lake City Stars), Aaron Harrison (Stockton Kings), David Stockton (Stockton Kings), Rashawn Thomas (Oklahoma City Blue), Trey McKinney Jones (Fort Wayne Mad Ants) and Marcus Thornton (Canton Charge).
Last season, Caruso played in 37 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 3.6 points and 2.0 assists per contest. With the South Bay Lakers, Caruso averaged 19.0 points, 7.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds with 2.0 steals, earning All-NBA G-League Second Team recognition and finishing second in the G-League Defensive Player of the Year voting.
The training camp will begin on June 20 with 12 players making it out of the camp to take part in a pair of upcoming games against Mexico on June 28 and Cuba on July 1.
