The Los Angeles Lakers got off to a pleasantly surprising start, going 5-5 in their first 10 games of the 2017-18 season. The strong start has people wondering if this year’s Lakers can sustain it or if they will falter like last year’s team.
An early indicator of which way the season might go could be how the team handles an early four-game road trip that sees them travel to take on the Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns. So far, not so good.
The Lakers couldn’t completely overcome a 21-point deficit to the Celtics, as they fell short in Boston by a final tally of 107-96. Los Angeles got within a bucket away from taking the lead, but couldn’t quite get over the hump.
Before the game, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Julius Randle probably does not have a future with the Lakers, despite his stellar defensive play this season. Ironically enough, Randle provided the Lakers with a huge lift in the loss, helping erase a giant early deficit.
Is it time for Randle to get more minutes? What should we make of these latest rumors? Gary and Anthony sit down to Luke Walton’s rotation, the loss in Boston and how the Lakers have mishandled Randle.
