(Editor’s Note: If it’s not immediately clear, the contents of this article are mostly satirical. Do not place your life savings on Brandon Ingram winning MVP. Or do, but don’t blame us.)
Brandon Ingram is basically already the next superstar in the Los Angeles Lakers’ rich history of elite players. So what if he hasn’t actually played in a game that counts yet? So what if he was inconsistent in summer league? The evidence that he’s next up in a line of Lakers legends like Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson is overwhelming:
- He’s already got Kobe’s old locker, which basically means he’s the next Kobe.
- He’s 6’9 and might keep growing.
- Kevin Durant told reporters that going up against Ingram in USA Basketball training camp was “like looking in a mirror”, even going as far as saying that Ingram was more developed than he was at that age. In other words, Ingram’s better than KD.
- My Lakers Outsiders colleague Grant Goldberg recently wrote a column stating why he thinks D’Angelo Russell is the next great Laker star. Grant is a bandwagon Seahawks fan who has really bad opinions on everything, so his article basically proves that Russell is a #bust (like all the great people who call in to LA sports radio shows didn’t know that already).
Bovada seems to disagree, though. The sports betting company recently released their 2016-17 NBA MVP odds, with Russell Westbrook of the OKC Thunder leading the pack at +200. Ingram is towards the back of the list at +30000, along with names like Laker wannabe Ben Simmons, some guy named Dirk Nowitzki, and Dirk’s illegitimate child Phil Jackson job-saver Knicks sophomore Kristaps Porzingis. Durant, meanwhile, is listed at +1200 even though we’ve already established that Ingram is better than the new Warriors forward will ever be.
Fortunately for Lakers fans, they can profit from Bovada not putting any RESPECK on Brandon Ingram’s name. The extremely low odds they placed on Ingram’s shoe-in MVP campaign make this an excellent bet for anyone looking to rake in some easy cash. I’m not a betting man – wait, scratch that, I wasn’t a betting man until I saw those odds, but I’m about to go bet my life savings on Ingram becoming the next NBA MVP. Yeah, I might be in debt for years, but since when has gambling ever gone wrong for anyone?
Join me, Magic Johnson Nation. Let’s get rich off Brandon Ingram together.
