Report: Lakers could get a July 1st meeting with DeMar DeRozan

Update:

It appears DeRozan will be re-signing with the Toronto Raptors right away. This move was expected despite reports that he would take meetings with other teams, including the Lakers. Sam Amick first reported the deal.

The Lakers will be putting their names in the hats for most, if not all, of the big free agents this summer. After being denied a meeting with Kevin Durant, the Lakers focus should shift towards different players to change the losing ways of the past couple of seasons. Cleveland.comā€™s Chris Haynes suggests the Lakers could secure a meeting with a polarizing Los Angeles native.

DeMar DeRozan has long been linked to the Lakers with his pending unrestricted free agent status, but the 26-year-old All-Star seems set on returning to Toronto. DeRozan may just be testing the waters, but it would be shocking to see him without a Raptors uniform next season. DeRozan is a noted Lakers and Kobe Bryant fan, so with Bryant leaving, some believed he was warm to the idea of being ā€œthe guyā€ after Kobe.

Some question the fit of DeRozan on the (17 win) team, but the Lakers are looking to add all the talent they can afford to bring in. Expect the Lakers to be linked to almost everybody whoā€™s anybody, not just DeRozan.
