Report: Lakers agree to deal with Timofey Mozgov

UPDATE (July 2): Per Sam Amick of USA TODAY, there will be no options on Timofey Mozgov’s deal with the Lakers. There is still a chance that part or all of the fourth year in his contract is non-guaranteed but that does not appear likely.

UPDATE (1:12 a.m.): Per Woj on The Vertical Free Agency Show, the Lakers have reached an agreement with Timofey Mozgov for four years, $64 million.

UPDATE (12:31 a.m.): The Lakers are discussing a four year, $65 million deal with Mozgov, per Adrian Wojnarowski on The Vertical Free Agency Show.

Mozgov will turn 30 in early July

Original story:

Let the games begin. Free agency is here and the Lakers are in the running for an NBA Champion, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical.

The Lakers have a gaping hole at center, and Mozgov is one of the Lakers preferred choices in free agency. Mozgov did not have a great deal of playing time last season and won’t come with a hefty price tag. Mitch Kupchak and co. are making Mozgov a priority.

When Tyronn Lue took over in Cleveland, Mozgov’s playing time went out of the window. It will be interesting to see his fit in Los Angeles if they come to a deal.

The Vertical podcast ranges Mozgov’s value at around $12-14 million.
