After the Lakers defeated the New York Knicks 122-115 in overtime on Saturday, the fan base let out a sigh of relief. The game was an absolute roller coaster. It seemed as if the Knicks were going to embarrass the Lakers on their home floor. LeBron James had other plans as he returned to finish with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Anthony Davis was not far behind with 28 points and 17 boards.

Davis has been on an absolute tear since he has returned to action. In the month of February, Davis has played three games and is averaging 29.3 points and 16.3 rebounds per game. The Lakers have won two of those three games and narrowly missed out on winning all three after Davis’ potentially game-winning runner rimmed out against the Clippers.

While the Lakers have a lot of issues to resolve, the return of this type of dominance for Davis has been a breath of fresh air. Not only is he healthy, but more importantly he is motivated. His running mate has noticed, as LeBron can tell AD has returned hungrier after being out for a long period of time.

Prior to his injury, Davis was putting up decent numbers but he seemed off. Most notably, he was really struggling with his jumper. That has not been the case since he has returned. His jump shot looks much better, but as LeBron said, his is hungry to dominate on both ends of the floor. In LeBron’s absence, he has put this team on his back, showing he is still the all-world talent that we expect.

With the NBA trade deadline approaching, the Lakers lack of assets will likely make them a non-factor. This is the roster Frank Vogel and staff have to work with. A healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis in unison, could give this team some hope. There is life in this Los Angeles Lakers team, but they have very little time to figure it out.
