The Los Angeles Lakers and Alex Caruso will forever be linked in their NBA existence. Caruso was just an undrafted grinder trying to make the league. The Lakers were a juggernaut with tremendous history. When the two met, it was at a bit of a crossroad.
In the 2017 NBA Summer League, Caruso joined Lonzo Ball and the baby Lakers in Las Vegas. They were a franchise that was transitioning into an up and coming roster headlined by a potential star (Ball). On a faithful July night, Caruso was appointed starter in place of the injured Ball. A show soon commenced:
He was a big part in helping them win the Las Vegas Summer League championship. He impressed so much that the South Bay Lakers picked him up for the season. The rest was history for Caruso and Co.
One championship and a $37 million dollars later, he’s become one of the league’s darlings. His defensive skill and deceptive athleticism have helped revitalize the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers, unfortunately, opted not to retain his services, and its ill effects are showing.
Despite their split, Caruso still sees the Lakers as an unforgettable portion of his budding career. NBA.com’s Mark Medina and media got a chance to hold court with the Bald Eagle.

As mentioned, Caruso’s abilities are a notable absence for the Lakers this season. He had a surprising chemistry with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Despite the “What ifs” amongst the fanbase, he deserves this moment. For the last few years, Lakers fans sung his praises and were met with resistance. Now the improving Bulls are rising to the top of the Eastern Conference, and Caruso is there to be thanked.
Not bad for a guy that found his way in the big lights of Hollywood.
