The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Thursday that they will call Staples Center their home for the next twenty years. The Lakers partnership with AEG has already lasted 21 years, the team moving there from the Forum in 1999 when it was brand new. Since then, the arena has seen six Lakers championships, including last year’s although no playoff games were played in the building.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss made the news official with the following statement:

“For 20-plus years, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming our fans to STAPLES Center. We’ve come together time after time to join forces, celebrate success, and witness greatness.

“We are proud to announce that we will continue to take the stage and play at STAPLES Center through our 2041 season.

“This wouldn’t be possible without our longtime partner AEG, their leadership, and their unwavering commitment to our fans.

“Together, we’ve made an arena feel like home. Here’s to 20 more.”

From Shaq and Kobe to Kobe and Pau to LeBron and AD, STAPLES has hosted some of the all-time great Lakers teams and it’s great for fans to continue to experience the purple and gold in that building. Hopefully, this announcement will be followed by yet another championship on that beautiful floor.
