Montrezl Harrell signing with the Los Angeles Lakers was the surprise of free agency. Harrell joins fellow Klutch Sports clients Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Anthony Davis, Talen Horton-Tucker, and LeBron James. He was one of the best reserves in the league last year, despite a lackluster end to the season. He’s looking to breathe life into the Lakers’ bench and get his first ring in the process.
Thinking of how Harrell thrives, he’s going to be a big compliment to James in the pick and roll. The two will likely establish chemistry above the rim as well. Harrell spoke about transitioning to play alongside the future Hall of Famer after Sunday’s practice, per Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:
Montrezl Harrell on @KingJames: “It’s not hard to play with one of the greatest players to play this game. He makes the game extremely easy for a lot of us on the floor … we just follow."

Everyone on and within the Lakers can attest to this. James’ intelligence and skills make jobs easy. The onus is still always on the pieces around him to complete the puzzle. James can’t take advantage of spacing without shot-makers. He can’t get in paint without great screening and rolling. It’s a total team effort that’s topped by an absolute superstar.
Luckily for the Lakers, they’ve done a great job finding players to execute these plans. Harrell’s play throughout his career supports his addition. Now it’s all about getting between the lines, and we know Trezz can’t wait for that.
