The Lakers didn’t receive as much championship love as the Clippers or Bucks before the season, as many figured that the extremely new roster would create problems for the Lakers as the season went on. Many also had doubts about the roster aside from the two-headed monster of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It turns out that you have quite the advantage when you have those two on your team, as they led the Lakers to a 2020 NBA Finals berth in their first year together.

After the emotional Western Conference Finals victory against the Nuggets, Anthony Davis was asked about his relationship with LeBron in reference to the beginning of the season. He had the following to say (reported by Mike Trudell of the Lakers):

The quote is very interesting to hear. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are definitely on different wavelengths in terms of their current career progression. LeBron has won three different NBA Finals and is looking for his fourth while Davis has reached the NBA Finals for the first time of his career. Still though, both players have something to prove to the public. Davis’ potential in the playoffs has been doubted his entire career, as his New Orleans Pelicans were stopped multiple times in the middle of the playoffs. Many have hoped that LeBron James’ age was catching up to him after his first missed playoffs in a long time. Both have proved the doubters wrong this year, as they will try to win the first of hopefully a few championships together against either the Celtics or the Heat.

Anthony Davis also talked about LeBron James asserting himself in the fourth quarter of the Lakers’ Game 5 victory over the Nuggets.

Lakers fans are probably more used to their two superstars not getting along (cc: Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal), but there may not be a superstar duo that gets long more than LeBron and Davis. It’s been great to see and hopefully they can finish the job over the next couple of weeks.
