Recap of the first night in the Orlando bubble with the Lakers and J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith

Yesterday, the Los Angeles Lakers took a flight to Orlando, FL in hopes of finishing the 2019-20 NBA season with the franchise’s 17th championship. Before they can play some basketball, the players will have to quarantine for a couple of days to ensure that they are all protected from coronavirus. They’re in the same hotel, with plenty of video updates being provided to us from J.R. Smith.

The Lakers’ Twitter account posted the above Tweet around 4:30 p.m. PST time, as it showed the Lakers boarding the plane (also notice Anthony Davis’ awesome Kobe Bryant shirt). The players were then not heard from until when they arrived to their hotel, which was then quickly followed by hilarity. JaVale McGee provided the following video, showing the Lakers literally walking into their hotel.

Once they were inside, J.R. Smith happened.

Smith immediately was commenting on the food in the bubble, a very popular topic on Twitter these days after former Laker Troy Daniels (now on the Denver Nuggets) showed the less-than-desirable dinner that he was presented. Apparently from Smith’s video, the Lakers may have better food than other teams, although Marc Stein of The New York Times reports that all players may be eating better food after the initial quarantine period.

Speaking of food, Kyle Kuzma appears to have…brought his own panini press?

Sure, why not! Also, Quinn Cook was on his social media giving the Lakers’ food option some compliments! He also confirmed that Alex Caruso agreed with him that the wings in the video below were actually good.

We have to get back to the star of the show, though. That is still J.R. Smith, who provided plenty of funny moments on his Instragram live last night (@teamswish).

In the video above from J.R. Smith’s Instragram, you can see most of the Lakers popping their heads out of their respective doors to check in on everyone’s food situation, or as Smith puts it “sack lunches”. It looks as if that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had the adjacent room next to Smith, while JaVale McGee was across the hall. It’s hard to make out who is down the hall, but you can hear Smith call out “DG” a few times referring to Danny Green. The boys sure seem to be having a great time, all things considered.

The J.R. Smith Experience will probably be giving us Lakers fans plenty of entertainment before they take on the Los Angeles Clippers on July 30th. You may want to turn on that push notification for when “teamswish” goes live on Instagram.
