Smith was on the Lakers’ radar prior to the shutdown after the buyout deadline. Smith participated in a joint workout alongside Dion Waiters, who the Lakers signed in March. Despite going in that direction, the team remained in contact a spot opened the pathway for Smith.

Smith’s last NBA action was with the Cleveland Cavaliers where he appeared om 11 games before reaching a buyout during the 2018-19 season. Smith will bring a wealth of experience playing in four NBA finals alongside LeBron James. Smith also shares agency with Klutch Sports with both James and Anthony Davis.
