The NBA Trade Deadline is slowly approaching, coming on February 6th this year. That means it’s time for rumors to fly around, and as the Lakers are looking to improve around the margins to secure that last championship piece, they’re expected to be involved on the phones a lot in the next couple weeks. Kyle Kuzma has already been rumored in trade talk, but now, there’s an opposing player that the Lakers seem to be calling about. That player is Derrick Rose of the Detroit Pistons.

According to Chris Hayes/Yahoo Sports, the Lakers are among many championship contenders who are contacting the Pistons to see what it would take to trade for Derrick Rose. The main other team that Haynes notes is the Philadelphia 76ers, while also pointing out that the Los Angeles Clippers have “checked in” on Rose, but that it was “more of a common exploratory talk”.

Although Kyle Kuzma’s name wasn’t mentioned within Chris Haynes’ article, you have to imagine that he would probably be involved in a trade to attain the 31-year-old. It’s no doubt a risky trade, as Derrick Rose has an infamous past of injury problems (he has only missed six games this season) with the Lakers letting go another young and promising player in the pursuit of a championship as soon as possible.

However, Rose would definitely fulfill a huge need for the Lakers, as they are sometimes very desperate for a shot creator off the bench. Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, and Alex Caruso all can struggle in this regard, with Rose being a huge improvement over all three on the offensive end. Darren Collison is another player the Lakers could attain to fulfill that role, but they’re currently on-hold on their pursuit of him as he still considers a return from retirement as well as choosing between the Lakers and Clippers.
