The Lakers are 17-3 and have been better than anyone could have expected to start the season. LeBron and Anthony Davis will get a lion share of the credit as is usual for super stars, but Frank Vogel deserves a lot of credit too.
It was announced today that Frank Vogel has won coach of the month in the West for October/November after leading the team to a 17-2 record during that stretch. Coach Nick Nurse of the Raptors won coach of the month in the East after an incredibly impressive start for that team.
The Lakers are a top 10 offense and defense and Vogel’s fingerprints can be found all over the Lakers defensive success in particular.
Vogel has also been great with the Lakers personnel. He seems to know when it’s the right time to play players and when it’s the right time to bench them. It’s hard to get an entire team of really good players to buy in so early but Vogel has done it.
December will be a lot tougher compared to October and November. If the Lakers are able to make it out of December still looking like the best team in the league, then Vogel will deserve even more acclamation.
