In what seems like years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers were nearly set to hire Tyronn Lue as their head coach. Contract negotiations got complicated and the deal ultimately fell through, leading to Frank Vogel being hired by the team. However, in the middle of the hiring process that landed Vogel the job, the team also interviewed Jason Kidd for the same role. Obviously they went with Vogel, but Kidd was eventually brought on as the team’s top assistant.
This immediately made fans around the NBA raise their eyebrows, as Jason Kidd has had sketchy ways of becoming a head coach in the past. Many fans of the team have expressed concerns that Kidd may circumvent Vogel, and try and get the front office to promote him to head coach should the beginning of the season start out rocky. Because of these concerns, Vogel was asked about his relationship with Kidd, and had this to say:
Frank Vogel says his relationship with assistant Jason Kidd has started off rated "a 10 out of 10" and called Kidd a perfect complement to what he does. Rob Pelinka said the goal with assembling the coaching staff was to have a very experienced staff… https://t.co/dQvXaAjcQU

Ten out of ten, you say? Wow, Vogel and Kidd must be going strong, I wonder when Vogel will pop the question?
This has to be looked at with some scrutiny since Vogel would never admit on media day of all days that his and Kidd’s relationship was anything short of amazing. The same goes for Rob Pelinka and any comments he had regarding the two coaches.
We will see how this situation plays out throughout the season, but all eyes will be on Kidd if any reports come out about Vogel’s seat being hot. The scary thing is, we all know that tends to happen on LeBron James led teams.
