In the wake of the DeMarcus Cousins injury, the Lakers are in need of filling out their backup center spot. With limited options, Sports Illustrated’s Rohan Nadkarni first reported that the Lakers were interested in Howard. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on the two parties planning to make contact.

Howard is expected to be released from the Memphis Grizzlies, which will clear the way for him to become a free agent. In his lone season with the Lakers, he averaged 17.1 points per game and 12.4 rebounds.
