On Thursday there was some more casting news for the 2021 movie, ‘Space Jam 2’. This time it wasn’t one of the NBA stars that will be appearing alongside the king, LeBron James. No, this time ‘Space Jam 2’ added a legitimate Hollywood actor in Don Cheadle.
Cheadle is the first big name actor/actress to be added to the movie, as the only big names to be confirmed in the movie right now other than LeBron are NBA and WNBA players. The news of Cheadle’s casting follows his most recent acting appearance in a little movie you might have heard of called ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In that movie he played James Rhodes/War Machine, a character he has played since appearing in 2010’s ‘Iron Man 2’.
LeBron James and Don Cheadle have actually appeared in television together, specifically on LeBron’s HBO show, ‘The Shop’. Cheadle actually appeared on the same episode that Lonzo Ball appeared on that aired in May.
It remains to be seen what type of role that Cheadle will be playing within the movie. You have to remember that the ‘Space Jam’ universe includes famous people playing themselves while also having actors/actresses playing characters. As Cheadle was the first to be announced and with him having some comedic chops here and there, he could be joining the movie to play the same type of role that Bill Murray played in the original movie starring Michael Jordan. In that movie, Murray played himself and was one of the main sources of comedic relief.
There’s still plenty of time between now and the movie’s premiere in 2021 to find out more about Cheadle’s role and what other actors/actresses may be joining him. Cheadle joins LeBron, of course, as well as Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, Diana Taurasi, and Nneka Ogwumike.
