As most of the NBA world prepares for Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the rest of the NBA world is keeping up with Anthony Davis reports that have come out today. Earlier in the day, Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN reported that David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans were letting teams know about their preferred frameworks for trades, and their intention of wanting to get a deal done before the 2019 NBA Draft. Later in the afternoon, Shams Charania and The Athletic reported that Anthony Davis was “focused” on the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks as preferred long-term destinations.
A new report has now come out from Adrian Wojnarowski as he made an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, as he said that the Lakers are the “leader in the clubhouse” for the acquisition of Anthony Davis.

In the SportsCenter appearance, Wojnarowski cited Anthony Davis’s obvious intention to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers before or during his 2020 free agency as a reason that the Lakers are the supposed leaders. He also stated that the rest of the league knows this, giving any of the other 29 other teams in the league much more risk than the Lakers if they wanted to put together a package for the Pelicans.
Wojnarowski continues, saying there’s still some work for the Lakers to do to get a deal done. As he previously reported early in the day, Griffin wants a third team involved in this deal to provide the best haul for the Pelicans. He said this earlier this morning in his report regarding that subject:
According to front offices that have engaged in conversations with Griffin, he hasn’t sounded convinced that one team is likely to fulfill his wishes for a Davis deal. To that end, Griffin has been working to find multiteam trade scenarios that could redirect assets for players or picks more preferable to the Pelicans, sources said.
More and more reports continue to come out regarding a possible trade of Anthony Davis. We’ll continue to provide updates as they come in.
