In his introductory press conference as the head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Frank Vogel illustrates his modern basketball vision to help the Lakers improve as a basketball team heading into next season. Although Vogel was not the clear favorite among the coaching candidates for the Lakers, he spoke about the need to move the Lakers into an analytical-driven team that many fans have been desiring for a long time now.

Vogel’s vision to move toward a modern style of coaching that focuses on spacing, shooting, and analytics are a welcome sign for the Lakers. Despite being fired in his last coaching gig for the Orlando Magic, Vogel spoke with optimism about how his coaching style evolved during his days in Orlando. Once known to be heavy-minded defensive coach, Vogel talked about his coaching evolution from his time in Indiana to the present:

Vogel’s comments about shifting the Lakers often tradtional style of basketball into one that will rely on data to influence spacing, passing, and defense on the basketball court should be lauded considering the fact the most successful teams in the NBA already have a similar style of approach.
