The Lakers’ brass are making their way to Philadelphia in pursuit of their new head coach. Per Sam Amick and Bill Oram of The Athletic, the Lakers are sending the group of Jeanie Buss, Rob Pelinka, Kurt and Linda Rambis, and also Jesse Buss, Joey Buss and COO Tim Harris to Philadelphia to meet with the Sixers Assistant Coach Monty Williams.
It will be the second meeting that the Lakers have had with Williams, who have also interviewed Tyronn Lue, Juwan Howard and Jason Kidd. Tyronn Lue is the only other candidate to get a second interview, which he had on Wednesday. Howard had his first interview on Tuesday, per Tania Ganguli of the LA Times.
The most interesting and welcoming part of this second interview for Williams, plus the interview process the team has made, is that the younger Buss siblings are taking part in the process. The Front Office brass making the trip including Kurt and Linda Rambis however, is not the most welcoming sight. Kurt has largely been a negative in his recent coaching roles. We know Jeanie and Linda are longtime friends, but what is her role this coaching search? What is her basketball acumen? What knowledge of the game does she possess to give us Lakers’ fans hope that the right decision-makers are in place currently? It continues to be a game of wait and we shall see in Laker Land.
