Most people seem to believe that Luke Walton will be fired at the conclusion of the season. While the Los Angeles Lakers head coach is remaining positive, the rumors around the team have gained too much traction to be about nothing.

Days after Jason Kidd publicly stated that he would not turn down the opportunity to coach the Lakers – despite the job not being available, yet – Bill Oram of The Athletic reports that Tyronn Lue actually contacted Walton to speak about the situation:

Lue recently called Walton to assure him that the Lakers had not contacted him about a potential head coach opening, a source close to the situation said.

The source said Lue told Walton that if he was contacted by someone in the organization he would let the Lakers coach know out of “courtesy and friendship.”

Lue seems to be the leader in the clubhouse as a potential replacement for Walton given his relationship as LeBron James’ head coach for the last three years before he signed with the Lakers.

Nevertheless, it was a classy gesture from Lue to assure Walton that he was not going behind his back to get the coveted job. That alone might make him the best candidate for the job.
