Lonzo Ball’s name is being included in reported deals to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis. However, Lonzo’s father LaVar Ball doesn’t want his son to play with the Pelicans, and would prefer Phoenix as Lonzo’s eventual destination.
LaVar Ball tells ESPN that if Lonzo Ball is traded, he wants his son to go to Phoenix: “We want to be in LA. But if he’s traded, I don’t want Lonzo in New Orleans. Phoenix is the best fit for him. And I am going to speak it into existence.”

Honestly, I’m impressed that LaVar thinks he or his son has any sort of call in where Lonzo eventually ends up. However, it’s certainly interesting that he is choosing to speak out about the situation. It implies to me that there’s more than just smoke behind these trade rumors and that a deal might be reached soon between the Lakers and Pelicans, one specifically involving Lonzo.
LaVar Ball mentioned that Phoenix is the best fit for Lonzo but that they want to be in LA. This shows to me that the Ball family has done their homework and tried to find the best available situation for Lonzo if a trade were inevitably made.
This could all be speculation by LaVar, but I’m thinking that his comments are an indication of things to come.
