The Los Angeles Lakers are already in the market for one Anthony. That, of course, would be New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis, who requested a trade and has the Lakers circled as his top preferred destination.

Trade talks appear to be ongoing as Thursday’s NBA trade deadline looms. The clock is ticking on the Lakers to make a deal to bring Davis to Los Angeles. But it appears the clock just started on another Anthony that the Lakers might have interest in.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Chicago Bulls are waiving Carmelo Anthony, which will put him on waivers. If he clears waivers, he will be a free agent and able to choose his next team, based on teams that would be interested in signing him.

Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers are a real option for Anthony to sign with.

The Lakers currently have a full roster and would need to create a spot in order to sign him. This could be done by cutting someone on the roster or a spot could be opened via trade. In any deal that the Lakers would acquire Davis, they would likely be sending out more players than they would receive in order to make the money match in a deal. That could pave the way for Anthony to sign with the Lakers.

Only time will tell if LeBron James will get to play alongside Davis and his longtime friend in Carmelo, but it seems the Lakers are actively looking to acquire both.
