NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic appeared on ESPN LA’s The Sedano Show to talk about the team and reported that Brandon Ingram still draws interest from other teams in trade talks.

Brandon Ingram, obviously he’s had a little bit of an up and down season. He missed some time with injury, the suspension earlier in the year, but still, I think, around the league he has a value as a prospect. A lot of teams still believe in him. He does still come up when teams inquire with the Lakers.”

Charania brings up the main feeling that I feel with Ingram: up and down. There are some nights where I’m super impressed with what the third-year player is doing and remember why I wanted the team to draft him in the first place. Then there are nights where I’m okay with trading him for whatever the team can get.

Inconsistency has been the narrative so far with the young core this season, and it has caused a lot of fans to give up hope. However, there is front office staff all around the league who get paid a ton of money to evaluate prospects, and it seems that most of them still believe in the Lakers young core, despite the inconsistencies.

Brandon Ingram might not be a part of the Lakers long term plans other than being used as an asset in a trade for an established star. To me, that’s fine. My concern was that he wouldn’t be perceived as valuable to other teams as the Lakers would want. This report helps ease some of those concerns.
