When LeBron James limped to the locker in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas, the initial reaction seemed ominous. Television cameras caught the forward saying he felt a pop in his groin during the timeout before he left the game.

Reports after the game and James’ own demeanor in talking to the media were more promising.

On Wednesday, the star received an MRI revealing no major damage, the Lakers announced. James will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis as he recovers from the injury.

LeBron has been known for his durability throughout his career, taking care of his body en route to playing a career-high 82 games last season. That’s not to mention the several seasons worth of playoff games he has accumulated over an accomplished career.

The Lakers battled hard after losing James to injury against the Warriors, withstanding a furious run before going on one of their own and eventually blowing out the defending champions in Oakland.

With the team still potentially shorthanded in the frontcourt with JaVale McGee’s illness, they will need more big performances to keep their strong position in the Western Conference should LeBron miss time with the injury. The Lakers play the Kings in Sacramento on Thursday.
