The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most storied franchises in the history of sports and they are bringing some of their past legacy to the screen. According to Mike Fleming, Jr. of Deadline, the Lakers are partnering with Haven Entertainment to release a five-part docu-series on the Showtime Era of the 1980’s led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Following via Deadline:

The series will be directed by Kristopher Belman (More Than A Game) and financed by Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman’s Los Angeles Media Fund.

“The Lakers are one of the most storied franchises in the NBA – but ‘Showtime’ holds a special place in the hearts of our fans and this city we’re proud to call home,’” said Jeanie Buss, Lakers co-owner/CEO. “We are excited to partner with Los Angeles Media Fund and Haven Entertainment to produce this documentary series, celebrating that era, its stars and its unique buzz. I can’t wait to watch!”

Showtime is obviously one of the most dominant stretches of basketball by any team, leading to five of the Lakers’ 16 championships. It also featured some of the biggest names in the sport, including James Worthy, Jamaal Wilkes and Michael Cooper alongside the star duo leading the way.

There are no more details about the production available at this time but with the Lakers’ cooperation, this should be a must-watch for any fans of the purple and gold.
