Podcast: Lakers Sneak Past Atlanta Hawks to Reach Winning Record

Atlanta Hawks

The Los Angeles Lakers are officially on a winning track. After sneaking past the Atlanta Hawks with a 107-106 victory on Sunday night, the Lakers are 7-6 on the season.

The Lakers finished out a weekend back-to-back, getting wins over inferior competition in the Sacramento Kings and the Hawks.

Against Atlanta, the game was anything but pretty. The Lakers were, at times, flat and sloppy, going into halftime with a fortunate one-point deficit after surrendering 15 turnovers.

The third quarter was a different story as LeBron James took over. James, who finished with 26 points (including the eventual game-winning putback dunk), seven rebounds, and four assists helped the Lakers race out to a 15-point lead in the third period. But it took only moments for the Hawks to cut into the deficit and lead late in the game.

The Lakers were saved by a Kyle Kuzma offensive rebound off James’ missed free throw late in the fourth quarter which led to a putback dunk for the King. On defense, Tyson Chandler’s enormous block on Trae Young at the buzzer allowed the Lakers to escape with the one-point win.

On the latest episode of the Lakers Outsiders Podcast, the guys discuss the Lakers’ recently improved defense, the late-game collapses, and Lonzo Ball once again being benched in crunch time.
