The NBA season is approaching quickly with just over two months until the regular season tips off. The Lakers will be rolling out a new cast that includes LeBron James so all eyes will be on them and how they match up with the rest of the league.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the league is set to release the schedule for the opening week of the season along with the Christmas Day and Martin Luther King Day games on Wednesday at 2pm EST.

However, we may know who the new look Lakers will draw on Christmas Day already. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Lakers will travel to Oakland to face the reigning champion Golden State Warriors. This will be the first time since 2014, when they played the Chicago Bulls, that the Lakers will be playing Christmas Day outside of Staples Center.

This would be a massive, star-studded matchup for the league as the Warriors are the pinnacle of the NBA currently and the Lakers just signed the best player in the world. This game will provide a good measurement as to how competitive the new-look purple and gold will be because in order to get out of the Western Conference playoffs they will likely have to go through the Warriors.

For the Lakers, this would mark one of four games against the defending champs as they both will battle for the Pacific division crown. James is obviously familiar with the Warriors as he has played against them in the last four NBA Finals.

The Las Vegas oddsmakers have the Lakers projected to win 48.5 games and if they are going to exceed that total a win against the Warriors on Christmas would go a long way for the young team.
