Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding Los Angeles Lakers’ star LeBron James were appropriately met with much criticism and vitriol. After questioning the forward’s intelligence, people across the NBA community (and outside of it) came to the defense of one of the most successful athletes of all time.

Jeanie Buss, Michael Jordan, and Adam Silver all released statements while several prominent NBA players took to social media to show their support for the best player in the game. Now, one of his newest teammates is taking it even further.

Lakers guard Josh Hart was asked for his thoughts on the matter by the Undefeated and the second-year player did not pull any punches (h/t Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll for the transcription):

”It’s just childish. That’s someone (James) who literally just opened a school in this past week helping kids from the inner city, kids who don’t have parents in their lives and that kind of thing. Someone who’s a role model obviously for young African Americans. So to see that, it’s childish and it’s a shame that that’s our president, but hopefully he’ll be better. But it’s childish.”

Hart went on to call James a role model and someone “we’re going to look up to” while referencing his opening of a new public school for at-risk children in Akron, Ohio.

Hart and James seem to have built an early camaraderie despite never playing with each other and it’s good to see one of the Lakers youngsters publicly supporting his new superstar teammate even if James does not need it.
