For the second year in a row, the Los Angeles Lakers Summer League team will be playing for a tournament championship. Last year they defeated the Portland Trail Blazers with Kyle Kuzma winning championship game MVP honors, this year they’ll play Portland again but with different stars showing up.
Second-year player Josh Hart and rookie Svi Mykhailiuk have been the two most impressive players on the Summer League Lakers. Now, both have earned All-Summer League honors and Hart was named Summer League MVP leading up to the championship game.
The Lakers scouting department seem to have a knack for finding gems late in the draft in recent years and that theme seems to be continuing with their 2018 draft class. Svi was drafted 47th overall and has significantly outplayed his draft spot on his way towards a spot on the All-Summer League Second Team. In Las Vegas, Svi is averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds on an efficient 50.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep.
However, Josh Hart has been the catalyst for the team’s undefeated record with his expanded offensive game and defensive tenacity. He earned First Team All-Summer League honors averaging 24.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three.
Last year when the team won the tournament, Lonzo Ball was named Summer League MVP and Kyle Kuzma was a standout rookie, but it looks like this team has picked up right where last year’s team left off.
