While some reports suggested James and President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson met for dinner to open free agency, a report from the New York Times’ Marc Stein suggests otherwise.
The level of contact between LeBron James and the Lakers thus far is not yet clear, but one source close to the process tells @NYTSports that LeBron and Lakers lead recruiter Magic Johnson did NOT have dinner together after free agency began at 9:01 PM Los Angeles time last night

While the Lakers are still deemed the favorites for James, it might be concerning that no reports have suggested there was contact between the two sides on the opening night of free agency.
In fact, multiple reports have come out that James spoke with other teams including a call to the Cavaliers and the aforementioned meeting with the Sixers.
Whether or not this should indicate worry for the Lakers, though, remains to be seen. A call with the Cavaliers isn’t out of the ordinary and a meeting with the Sixers that doesn’t include James isn’t entirely worrisome in itself, but the culmination of all the things together could lead to some raised blood pressure over the next few days.
