LeBron James’ decision in free agency could be coming soon as by all accounts, the Cleveland Cavaliers star does not want to prolong the process. Reports indicate that James is deciding between his hometown Cavs and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Recent reports are indicating that LeBron is not fully sold on joining the Lakers without assurance that he will have co-stars in LA. That has put pressure on the Lakers to make a trade for San Antonio Spurs’ star Kawhi Leonard who has requested a trade from San Antonio. But James may be doing some work of his own in recruiting players to join him.

According to the OC Register’s Mark Heisler, at least one anonymous Eastern Conference general manager believes James has already begun calling players he wants to team up with:

“Meanwhile,” said the GM, “LeBron is doing what we does – calling players on other teams he wants to play with.”

That’s probably a good sign for the Lakers who are among the only teams who can feasibly sign James and another star (while potentially trading for a third). The Cavaliers do not have the flexibility to sign anyone and their attempts to dump their large salary contracts have been unsuccecssful so far.

Regardless, this does not prove anything about LeBron’s intentions other than the fact that he wants to continue competing for championships.

The Lakers will be hoping to provide James with that opportunity through the likes of Leonard and Paul George.
