The day has finally come, Lakers fans.
Their most anticipated season in recent memory, the Lakers are set to debut their 2017-18 campaign in a pre-season matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at the Anaheim Honda Center.
Los Angeles, which has been riding on a frenzied wave of excitement with fans and organizational leaders alike, will have a great opportunity to keep the positive momentum going against a strong Timberwolves team that had a remarkable off-season of its own.
Minnesota, who comes into the new season with the new acquisitions of Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, and Aaron Brooks, who already had stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, present a formidable first opponent for a Laker team that looks to improve on a putrid 30th-ranked defensive rating from last season.
The matchup will also give a local Laker fanbase a first-hand opportunity to see the highly-touted new Laker, Lonzo Ball, playing in his first official game as a Laker after being drafted this last June in the 2017 NBA Draft.
For whatās been an offseason fueled by incredible enthusiasm and excitement ā be it by the drafting of Lonzo Ball, winning the 2017 summer league championship, or cutting the ribbon to the Lakers new state-of-the-art training facility ā itās no surprise that the current state of the team sits in a much better place when put into perspective with previous off-seasons.
And with the 2018 NBA All-Star game set to make a return to Los Angeles next February as well, the electricity around this team and the city is sure to continue its merry-go-round.
Catch the pre-season opener live at 7:00 PST tonight on Spectrum SportsNet, NBA TV, and ESPN LA 710.
