Hurricane Harvey has ravaged the Texas coast over the past few days, hitting Houston especially hard. The destruction has led to numerous deaths and much more damage to houses and businesses.

As the natural disaster continues to affect hundreds of thousands of people, many people and organizations are attempting to do what they can to help. The Los Angeles Lakers are among those groups as they announced on Wednesday that they would be donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to be used for relief efforts.

The Lakers’ statement:

The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that they will make a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist in the relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The Lakers encourage fans to help those in need by making a gift to the Red Cross. Please visit redcross.org or 1-800-RED-CROSS for more information on lending support.

The NBA and NBPA have recently collaborated on a joint donation, as well. Houston Rockets’ owner Leslie Alexander is reportedly donating 10 million dollars.

While not traditional sports news, it’s great to see the Lakers use their money for a good cause and help those in dire need. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
