This is not the first time that the Lakers and Rondo have expressed mutual interest, but the two never had a formal meeting to discuss anything further.
Rondo, in limited minutes, could provide help in running the offense off the bench. Rondo averaged 8 points, 6.7 assists and 5 rebounds for the Chicago Bulls. He was praised by young Bulls players for his role in mentoring them in his one year in Chicago. He was an instrumental piece in their playoff match against the Boston Celtics before suffering a hand injury, which caused him to miss the rest of the series. In two games against the Celtics, Rondo averaged 11.5 points, 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds.
