The Los Angeles Lakers will finally unveil a bronze statue for one of the greatest players in franchise history. Shaquille O’Neal will be presented with the honor on March 24, 2017 as his statue will be revealed at STAPLES Center.
While Shaq did not have a graceful finish to his career in Los Angeles, there is no doubt that LA is where he cemented his greatness. With the Lakers, he became arguably the most dominant player of all time en route to winning three championships. His eight seasons in the Purple and Gold were wildly successful.
Now, Shaq will join the long list of franchise stars who have been honored outside of the Lakers’ home court. Shaq’s statue will join the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, and legendary broadcaster Chick Hearn.
The event to unveil the Big Fella’s statue will be open to the public. Fans can join the Lakers as they unveil the nine-foot, 1,200 pound bronze statue at Star Plaza. Much like Shaq himself, the statue will be larger than life, suspended ten feet above the ground.
A well-deserved honor for a newly-enshrined Hall of Famer and one of the greatest Lakers of all time, Shaq can now take his place among the other Lakers Legends.
