The Los Angeles Lakers have enjoyed a very successful offseason thus far, but there is plenty of work still in front of them.
After landing the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the front office will survey prospects from top to bottom of this draft class in an effort to come away with young, talented players that can become factors on the roster.
Another objective on their list is to fill out the coaching staff for new head coach Luke Walton, who is still in the midst of a playoff run with the Golden State Warriors. Brian Shaw has been under heavy consideration by the new Lakers head coach to join his staff as his lead assistant, but it’s Walton’s current team that may pry him away from Los Angeles, according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Another potential candidate – Brian Shaw – had been hopeful of getting the Warriors’ top assistant job, which he found preferable to accepting the offer to join Walton with the Lakers, league sources said. Shaw is a Bay Area native and still lives there.
So as it turns out, Shaw may actually replace Walton in Golden State instead of joining him in a reunion with the Lakers. It is unknown who Walton would consider for the position if Shaw elects to go elsewhere, so losing his top experienced option would be a tough hit to the team’s search.
